Diagnose Unusual Sounds at Your Home or Office
You hear a clunk, squeal, grind, hum, rattle or whine, and you do not know what is causing it. An experienced mobile mechanic comes to your home or office across Northern Virginia, nearby Maryland and Washington, DC, finds the cause where the car is parked, and quotes the repair. Same-day when the schedule has room.

Yes, we find out why your car is making an unusual sound, where it is parked
The technician listens to the sound, asks when it happens, and works through the likely area: brakes, wheel bearings, suspension, steering, belts, pulleys, exhaust or engine accessories. When safe and needed, the car is driven to repeat the sound. The technician explains the source of the noise and quotes the repair as its own estimate. The price covers the diagnosis, billed hourly.
Already know what is wrong?
If you already know the sound is from worn brakes, a bad wheel bearing or a noisy belt, book the repair directly: Brake Pads and Rotors Replacement, Wheel Bearing / Hub Assembly Replacement or Belt Replacement. If you are not sure, this diagnostic is the place to start.
Unusual car sounds: what we see
- A squeal or grind when you press the brake pedal.
- A hum that gets louder as the car moves faster.
- A clicking sound from the front when you turn into a parking spot.
- A clunk over bumps or when the car changes direction.
- A chirp or squeak from the front of the engine.
- A rattling sound under the car at idle or during acceleration.
- A scraping sound that changes when the wheel turns.
- A whine when you steer or when engine speed rises.
- A knocking sound from the suspension area on rough pavement.
- A ticking sound near the engine or exhaust that changes with engine speed.
What causes unusual car sounds?
The sound points to the system, but it does not always name the failed part. A brake grind can be worn pads, a stuck caliper or rust on the rotor. A hum can be a wheel bearing, tire wear or drivetrain noise. A clunk can come from a control arm, sway bar link, strut mount or loose exhaust bracket. The diagnostic separates sounds that seem alike from outside the car.
Why diagnose before replacing parts
Noises travel through the body of the car. A sound that seems to come from the wheel can start at the brake, bearing, axle, tire or suspension. Replacing the loudest looking part can leave the same noise behind. The diagnostic finds the source first, so the repair estimate is for the part that is actually causing the sound.
What we do at your location
1
Listen to the sound and confirm when it happens.
2
Road test the car when it is safe and needed to repeat the noise.
3
Raise supported areas of the car as needed and check the likely source.
4
Explain the cause and quote the repair as its own estimate.
The diagnosis is billed hourly. Most causes are found within the first hour.

What it costs, and how the price is set
Diagnose Unusual Sounds is priced for your car on the written estimate. Diagnostics are billed hourly. The price depends on how often the noise happens, where it comes from, and how much access is needed to reach the area. It includes the diagnostic work at your location and an explanation of the cause. The repair is quoted separately.
Before anything is scheduled, you get a written estimate for your car, and you approve it online. The appointment is confirmed only when the estimate is approved, so the price is set before the technician comes to you. It changes only if you approve a change on site. A deposit may be collected online when you approve; the balance is due when the work is done, online, by card in person, or in cash.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you diagnose it in my parking garage?
+
Usually, yes. EZ Car Clinic needs a parking spot for the service van close to your car. If the garage belongs to a building or HOA, confirm that the work is allowed before you book.
What if the noise is not happening when the technician arrives?
+
Intermittent noises can take longer because the sound has to be repeated before it can be traced. A short video can help show the condition that makes the sound, but the car still has to be diagnosed at the vehicle.
Can the repair be done at the same visit?
+
The diagnostic visit finds the cause and quotes the repair as its own estimate. Once you approve the repair, the repair appointment is scheduled and the technician brings the parts for that repair.
How long does a Diagnose Unusual Sounds take?
+
Usually about an hour. It depends on the year, make, model and engine, whether the noise is constant or intermittent, where the sound comes from, and whether the car can be safely driven to repeat the sound.
Do I need to be there?
+
Yes. Someone must be there to hand over the key and approve any change to the estimate. They do not need to stand by the car, but they are welcome to.
Are there any additional fees for weekend or same-day service?
+
No, we don't charge extra for weekend or same-day appointments. If our schedule allows, we're happy to get your vehicle back on the road as soon as possible at no extra charge.
Most services carry an on-site service fee to cover technician dispatch and travel to your location. This fee is clearly listed on your estimate.
If additional work is needed during your appointment, your technician will discuss it with you and provide an updated estimate for your approval before performing any additional services.
Can you diagnose a noise that only happens while driving?
+
Yes, when the sound can be repeated safely. Tell EZ Car Clinic when it happens, such as braking, turning, accelerating, coasting or going over bumps.
Is a brake squeal or grinding sound part of this service?
+
Yes. If the sound is clearly tied to braking, Diagnose Brake System is the more focused service. If you are not sure where the sound is coming from, Diagnose Unusual Sounds is the right place to start.
Should I keep driving if the car is making a loud noise?
+
Do not keep driving if the car grinds loudly, the steering changes, a wheel feels loose, the oil pressure warning comes on or the temperature climbs. Park the car and request a diagnostic before moving it again.
Can I get a same-day appointment?
+
Same-day appointments may be available when the schedule permits, but they are not guaranteed. EZ Car Clinic is an advance-booking service, not an emergency roadside or towing provider. Your appointment is confirmed only after you approve the estimate.
How do I pay?
+
EZ Car Clinic may collect a deposit online when you approve the estimate. The balance can be paid online, by card in person, or in cash when the work is done.
Can I cancel or reschedule?
+
Appointments may be canceled or rescheduled up to 48 hours before the appointment; changes made within 48 hours are subject to a late-change fee under the booking policy.
