Diagnose Check Engine Light at Your Home or Office
The check engine light is on, and you do not know what is causing it. An experienced mobile mechanic comes to your home or office across Northern Virginia, nearby Maryland and Washington, DC, finds the cause where the car is parked, and quotes the repair. Same-day when the schedule has room.

Yes, we find out why the check engine light is on, where it is parked
The technician comes to your home or office and scans the engine computer for stored and pending trouble codes. They follow the code with live data, wiring and component checks, then explain the cause in plain words and quote the repair separately. The price covers the diagnosis, billed hourly.
Already know what is wrong?
If you know the failed part, book the repair directly: Oxygen / O2 Sensor Replacement, EVAP Purge Valve/Solenoid Replacement, or Ignition Coil Replacement. Each repair has its own written estimate. If you are not sure, this diagnostic is the place to start.
Check engine light: what we see
- The check engine light stays on after the engine starts.
- The check engine light flashes while the engine is running rough.
- The engine shakes at idle or feels like it is missing.
- The car hesitates when you press the gas.
- Fuel mileage has dropped without a clear reason.
- The car smells rich, like raw fuel, from the exhaust.
- The gas cap warning came on, then the check engine light followed.
- The car failed an emissions test because the check engine light is on.
- The engine starts hard after refueling.
- The light went off by itself, then came back later.
What the check engine light means
The check engine light means the engine computer saw a fault in the emissions, fuel, ignition, air metering or sensor system. A trouble code points to the area of the fault, but it does not always name the bad part. An oxygen sensor code can be caused by an exhaust leak, a vacuum leak, a wiring fault or a fuel control problem. A misfire code can be a coil, spark plug, fuel injector, compression problem or wiring fault.
Why diagnose before replacing parts
A code reader gives a code, not the full answer. Replacing the part named in the code can miss the real problem and leave the light on. The diagnostic checks the system that set the code, so the repair estimate is based on the cause, not a guess.
What we do at your location
1
Scan the engine computer for stored and pending trouble codes.
2
Read live data from the sensors and systems related to the code.
3
Check the wiring, connectors and components that match the fault.
4
Explain the cause and quote the repair as its own estimate.
The diagnosis is billed hourly. Most causes are found within the first hour.

What it costs, and how the price is set
Diagnose Check Engine Light is priced for your car on the written estimate. Diagnostics are billed hourly, and many causes are found within the first hour; an intermittent fault or a fault under other parts can take longer. The price includes reading the trouble codes, checking the data and circuits that match the code, explaining the cause, and quoting the repair separately.
Before anything is scheduled, you get a written estimate for your car, and you approve it online. The appointment is confirmed only when the estimate is approved, so the price is set before the technician comes to you. It changes only if you approve a change on site. A deposit may be collected online when you approve; the balance is due when the work is done, online, by card in person, or in cash.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you diagnose it in my parking garage?
+
Usually, yes. EZ Car Clinic needs a parking spot for the service van close to your car. If the garage belongs to a building or HOA, confirm that the work is allowed before you book.
Does a code tell you which part to replace?
+
Not by itself. A code tells the technician which system the computer is unhappy with. The diagnostic checks the sensor readings, wiring and related parts before a repair is quoted.
Can you clear the check engine light?
+
Clearing the code without fixing the cause usually brings the light back. The technician can clear codes after the diagnostic or after an approved repair when it is appropriate.
How long does Diagnose Check Engine Light take?
+
Usually about an hour. It depends on the code, the year, make, model and engine, whether the fault is happening during the visit, and how easy the related parts and wiring are to reach.
Do I need to be there?
+
Yes. Someone must be there to hand over the key and approve any change to the estimate. They do not need to stand by the car, but they are welcome to.
Are there any additional fees for weekend or same-day service?
+
No, we don't charge extra for weekend or same-day appointments. If our schedule allows, we're happy to get your vehicle back on the road as soon as possible at no extra charge.
Most services carry an on-site service fee to cover technician dispatch and travel to your location. This fee is clearly listed on your estimate.
If additional work is needed during your appointment, your technician will discuss it with you and provide an updated estimate for your approval before performing any additional services.
Can I drive with the check engine light on?
+
If the light is steady and the car drives normally, it may still be drivable, but the fault should be diagnosed before it turns into a larger repair or an emissions failure. If the light is flashing, avoid driving because a misfire can damage the catalytic converter.
What if the check engine light turned off?
+
The computer may still store a pending or history code. If the light comes and goes, the fault may be intermittent, such as an EVAP leak, weak ignition coil, loose connector or sensor signal that drops out.
Can you repair the cause at the same visit?
+
The diagnostic visit finds the cause and the repair is quoted as its own estimate. Once you approve it, the repair appointment is scheduled and the technician brings the parts for that repair.
Can I get a same-day appointment?
+
Same-day appointments may be available when the schedule permits, but they are not guaranteed. EZ Car Clinic is an advance-booking service, not an emergency roadside or towing provider. Your appointment is confirmed only after you approve the estimate.
How do I pay?
+
EZ Car Clinic may collect a deposit online when you approve the estimate. The balance can be paid online, by card in person, or in cash when the work is done.
Can I cancel or reschedule?
+
Appointments may be canceled or rescheduled up to 48 hours before the appointment; changes made within 48 hours are subject to a late-change fee under the booking policy.
