EVAP Purge Valve/Solenoid Replacement at Your Home or Office

The check engine light is on, the car is hard to start after getting gas, or the idle stumbles because the EVAP purge valve/solenoid has failed. An experienced mobile mechanic comes to your home or office across Northern Virginia, nearby Maryland and Washington, DC, and replaces the purge valve/solenoid where the car is parked. Same-day when the schedule has room.

EZCC Service Warranty on parts and labor

Yes, we replace purge valves/solenoids where the car is parked

The technician brings the EVAP purge valve/solenoid for your vehicle and installs it where the car is parked. They reconnect the vapor hose and electrical connector, clear related trouble codes if applicable, and do the complimentary multipoint visual inspection. The price includes parts, labor and the EZCC Service Warranty.

Not sure it is the purge valve/solenoid?

An EVAP purge valve/solenoid replacement appointment is a repair appointment. It does not include testing or troubleshooting. If you are not sure the purge valve/solenoid is the problem, book Diagnose Check Engine Light instead. The technician finds the cause and quotes the repair.

Is it the purge valve/solenoid? Signs to watch for

  • The check engine light is on and the stored fault points to EVAP purge flow or the purge valve circuit.
  • The engine cranks longer than normal right after you fill the gas tank.
  • The engine starts after fueling, then stumbles or shakes at idle.
  • The idle is rough at a stop after a gas stop, then smooths out as you drive.
  • A fuel vapor smell comes from under the hood after the car is parked.
  • The engine smells fuel-rich at the tailpipe after a restart.
  • Fuel mileage has dropped without a clear driving change.
  • The car cannot pass state emissions with the check engine light on.
  • The gas cap has already been tightened or replaced, but the EVAP warning came back.

Purge valve, vent valve or charcoal canister?

The purge valve sits in the vapor line between the charcoal canister and the engine. It opens so stored fuel vapor can be burned in the intake. A vent valve works at the canister or tank side, and the charcoal canister stores the vapor. A purge valve stuck open often causes hard starts or rough idle after fueling. A vent valve or canister problem often shows up as fueling trouble or a general EVAP leak fault.

What happens if you wait

A stuck-open purge valve can let fuel vapor into the intake when the engine is off. That can make starts after fueling rough and can make the engine smell rich. A stuck-closed valve or electrical fault can keep the check engine light on and keep the EVAP system from completing its drive cycle. The car may still drive, but the light can hide a new fault.

What it costs, and how the price is set

EVAP Purge Valve/Solenoid Replacement is priced for your car on the written estimate. The price depends on your vehicle's year, make, model, engine, and where the purge valve/solenoid sits. It includes the purge valve/solenoid, parts and labor, clearing related trouble codes if applicable, the complimentary multipoint visual inspection, and the EZCC Service Warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you replace the purge valve/solenoid in my parking garage?

+

Usually, yes. EZ Car Clinic needs a parking spot for the service van close to your car. If the garage belongs to a building or HOA, confirm that the work is allowed before you book.

Can a bad purge valve make my car hard to start after getting gas?

+

Yes. When the purge valve sticks open, fuel vapor can enter the intake at the wrong time. That can make the engine crank longer, start rough, or stumble right after filling the tank.

Is the purge valve the same as the vent valve?

+

No. The purge valve meters fuel vapor into the engine. The vent valve controls air flow at the charcoal canister or tank side of the EVAP system.

How long does an EVAP purge valve/solenoid replacement take?

+

Usually one to two hours. It depends on the year, make, model, engine, and where the purge valve/solenoid sits. Some sit high on the intake, and others are tucked under covers or near the canister.

Do I need to be there?

+

Yes. Someone must be there to hand over the key and approve any change to the estimate. They do not need to stand by the car, but they are welcome to.

Are there any additional fees for weekend or same-day service?

+

No, we don't charge extra for weekend or same-day appointments. If our schedule allows, we're happy to get your vehicle back on the road as soon as possible at no extra charge.

Most services carry an on-site service fee to cover technician dispatch and travel to your location. This fee is clearly listed on your estimate.

If additional work is needed during your appointment, your technician will discuss it with you and provide an updated estimate for your approval before performing any additional services.

Can I cancel or reschedule?

+

Appointments may be canceled or rescheduled up to 48 hours before the appointment; changes made within 48 hours are subject to a late-change fee under the booking policy.

Do I need a diagnostic before replacing the EVAP purge valve/solenoid?

+

If another shop or a prior estimate has already named the purge valve/solenoid, you can book this repair. If you only know the check engine light is on, book Diagnose Check Engine Light instead.

Will EVAP Purge Valve/Solenoid Replacement turn off my check engine light?

+

This appointment includes clearing related trouble codes, if applicable. If the light returns, another EVAP part or wiring fault may still be present, and a Diagnose Check Engine Light appointment is the next step.

Can a purge valve cause a gas smell?

+

It can. A purge valve that does not seal can let vapor move when it should not, and you may smell fuel vapor near the engine bay. A gas smell can also come from other EVAP parts, so book a diagnostic if the cause is not already known.

Can I get a same-day appointment?

+

Same-day appointments may be available when the schedule permits, but they are not guaranteed. EZ Car Clinic is an advance-booking service, not an emergency roadside or towing provider. Your appointment is confirmed only after you approve the estimate.

How do I pay?

+

EZ Car Clinic may collect a deposit online when you approve the estimate. The balance can be paid online, by card in person, or in cash when the work is done.

What does the purge valve/solenoid warranty cover?

+

The EZCC Service Warranty on the purge valve/solenoid is 12 months/12,000 miles, whichever comes first. Coverage conditions and exclusions are explained in the full service warranty terms.
