EZCC Service Warranty on parts and labor

Yes, we replace alternators where the car is parked

The technician brings the alternator to your home or office and installs it. They refit the drive belt and look over the belt, tensioner and pulleys in a complimentary multipoint visual inspection. The price includes parts, labor and the EZCC Service Warranty.

Not sure it is the alternator?

An alternator replacement appointment is a repair appointment. It does not include testing or troubleshooting. If the car will not start and you are not sure why, book Car Is Not Starting Diagnostics instead; if it runs but a warning light is on, book a Diagnose / Troubleshoot appointment. The technician finds the cause and quotes the repair, whether that is the alternator, the battery, the belt or a connection.

Is it the alternator? Signs to watch for

  • The battery warning light stays on while you drive, or flickers at idle.
  • Headlights and dash lights dim at idle, then brighten when you rev the engine.
  • The car stalled while driving, or died again soon after a jump start.
  • A new battery went flat within days.
  • A whine or grinding noise comes from the front of the engine and rises with engine speed.
  • You smell hot rubber or burning wires from the engine bay.
  • Power windows, wipers or the radio slow down or cut out while driving.
  • ABS, traction control or steering warning lights come on with the battery light.
  • Jump-starting works, but the car dies again after a short drive.
  • The car has over 100,000 miles, and the alternator has never been replaced.

Alternator or battery?

An alternator problem shows up while you drive. The battery warning light stays on with the engine running, the lights dim at idle, and the car dies again soon after a jump because the battery is not being charged. A battery problem shows up when you start the car. It cranks slowly or just clicks, and a jump start gets it going and keeps it going. A bad alternator can also drain a brand-new battery in a few days, so a recently replaced battery that is flat again points to the alternator.

What happens if you wait

An alternator that is on its way out charges less each week. The battery makes up the difference until it cannot. Then the car stalls, usually in traffic, and the power steering and brake assist go with it. Every flat cycle shortens the battery's life, so a late alternator replacement often turns into an alternator and a battery. Replacing it on your schedule helps you avoid a tow and a roadside wait.

What it costs, and how the price is set

Alternator Replacement is priced for your car on the written estimate. Your estimate depends on your car's year, make, model and engine. It includes the alternator, parts and labor, refitting the drive belt, the complimentary multipoint visual inspection, and the EZCC Service Warranty.

Before anything is scheduled, you get a written estimate for your car, and you approve it online. The appointment is confirmed only when the estimate is approved, so the price is set before the technician comes to you. It changes only if you approve a change on site. A deposit may be collected online when you approve; the balance is due when the work is done, online, by card in person, or in cash.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you replace the alternator in my parking garage?

+

Usually, yes. EZ Car Clinic needs a parking spot for the service van close to your car. If the garage belongs to a building or HOA, confirm that the work is allowed before you book.

Will I need a new battery too?

+

Sometimes. A battery that was run flat by a failing alternator does not always recover. If you want the battery replaced at the same visit, add Car Battery Replacement to your request and it is quoted on the same estimate.

What if it is the belt, and not the alternator?

+

A slipping or worn drive belt can look like a charging problem. If you are not sure what is failing, book a diagnostic appointment instead of a repair.

How long does an alternator replacement take?

+

Usually one to three hours. It depends on your vehicle's year, make, model and engine size: on some engines the alternator sits on top and comes out quickly, on others it is low down or behind parts that have to come off first.

Do I need to be there?

+

Yes. Someone must be there to hand over the key and approve any change to the estimate. They do not need to stand by the car, but they are welcome to.

Are there any additional fees for weekend or same-day service?

+

No, we don't charge extra for weekend or same-day appointments. If our schedule allows, we're happy to get your vehicle back on the road as soon as possible at no extra charge.

Most services carry an on-site service fee to cover technician dispatch and travel to your location. This fee is clearly listed on your estimate.

If additional work is needed during your appointment, your technician will discuss it with you and provide an updated estimate for your approval before performing any additional services.

Can I cancel or reschedule?

+

Appointments may be canceled or rescheduled up to 48 hours before the appointment; changes made within 48 hours are subject to a late-change fee under the booking policy.

Is it the alternator or the battery?

+

If the battery light is on while the engine runs, the lights dim at idle, or the car dies again soon after a jump start, the alternator is the usual cause. If the car only struggles to start and a jump start fixes it, the battery is. If you are not sure, book a diagnostic appointment instead of a repair.

Can I keep driving with a bad alternator?

+

Not for long. Once the alternator stops charging, the car runs on the battery alone and stalls when it is drained, often within a short drive. The power steering and brake assist stop with the engine. Book before it leaves you stuck.

Can you replace the belt, tensioner or idler pulley at the same visit?

+

Yes, when they are on the estimate. Add them to your request so they are quoted on the same estimate; the technician brings the parts that are on it. Work that is not on the estimate is quoted for a later visit.

Can I get a same-day appointment?

+

Same-day appointments may be available when the schedule permits, but they are not guaranteed. EZ Car Clinic is an advance-booking service, not an emergency roadside or towing provider. Your appointment is confirmed only after you approve the estimate.

How do I pay?

+

EZ Car Clinic may collect a deposit online when you approve the estimate. The balance can be paid online, by card in person, or in cash when the work is done.

What does the alternator warranty cover?

+

The EZCC Service Warranty on the alternator is 12 months/12,000 miles, whichever comes first. Coverage conditions and exclusions are explained in the full service warranty terms.
