Not sure it is the thermostat housing?
A Thermostat Housing Replacement appointment is a repair appointment. It does not include testing or troubleshooting. If you are not sure the thermostat housing is the problem, book Diagnose Engine Overheat instead. The technician finds the cause and quotes the repair.
Is it the thermostat housing? Signs to watch for
- Coolant is wet around the thermostat housing or the coolant outlet on the engine.
- A sweet coolant smell comes from the front of the car after driving.
- Steam comes from the engine bay near the upper radiator hose area.
- The coolant level drops after each drive.
- The temperature gauge rises in traffic or climbs higher than normal.
- The heater blows cold air when the coolant level is low.
- Dried white, pink, orange or green crust is around the thermostat housing.
- Coolant drips onto the transmission, engine block or belt area from the housing.
- The upper radiator hose area looks wet, but the hose itself is not split.
- The engine warning light comes on with a cooling system temperature fault.
Thermostat housing, thermostat or hose?
The thermostat housing is the part bolted to the engine where coolant passes through the thermostat and into the hose. Many housings are plastic, and they can crack or warp from heat cycles. A bad thermostat can make the engine run too hot or too cool, while a hose leak usually shows wetness at the hose end or along the hose body. Thermostat Housing Replacement covers the thermostat and the housing together.
What happens if you wait
A leaking thermostat housing lets coolant escape and lets air enter the cooling system. Air pockets can stop coolant from moving through the engine the way it should. The engine can run hot, the heater can blow cold, and a small leak can become a larger coolant loss during a normal drive.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you replace the thermostat housing in my parking garage?
+
Usually, yes. EZ Car Clinic needs a parking spot for the service van close to your car. If the garage belongs to a building or HOA, confirm that the work is allowed before you book.
Why is coolant leaking from the thermostat housing?
+
The housing can crack, warp or lose its seal where it bolts to the engine. Plastic housings see a lot of heat cycles, and the gasket can harden over time.
What if the overheating is from the radiator, fan or water pump?
+
A repair appointment does not include testing or troubleshooting. If the cause is not clear, book Diagnose Engine Overheat first.
Can I get a same-day appointment?
+
Same-day appointments may be available when the schedule permits, but they are not guaranteed. EZ Car Clinic is an advance-booking service, not an emergency roadside or towing provider. Your appointment is confirmed only after you approve the estimate.
How do I pay?
+
EZ Car Clinic may collect a deposit online when you approve the estimate. The balance can be paid online, by card in person, or in cash when the work is done.
What does the thermostat housing warranty cover?
+
The EZCC Service Warranty on the thermostat housing is 12 months/12,000 miles, whichever comes first. Coverage conditions and exclusions are explained in the full service warranty terms.
Can you replace just the thermostat?
+
Thermostat Housing Replacement includes replacing the thermostat and the thermostat housing. On many vehicles they come as one assembly. If your car only needs the thermostat, request Thermostat Replacement instead.
Will you add coolant after replacing the thermostat housing?
+
Yes. Thermostat Housing Replacement includes draining and filling coolant and purging air out of the cooling system.
How long does a thermostat housing replacement take?
+
Usually one to two hours. It depends on your vehicle's year, make, model and engine, where the thermostat housing sits, and how much has to come off to reach it.
Do I need to be there?
+
Yes. Someone must be there to hand over the key and approve any change to the estimate. They do not need to stand by the car, but they are welcome to.
Are there any additional fees for weekend or same-day service?
+
No, we don't charge extra for weekend or same-day appointments. If our schedule allows, we're happy to get your vehicle back on the road as soon as possible at no extra charge.
Most services carry an on-site service fee to cover technician dispatch and travel to your location. This fee is clearly listed on your estimate.
If additional work is needed during your appointment, your technician will discuss it with you and provide an updated estimate for your approval before performing any additional services.
Can I cancel or reschedule?
+
Appointments may be canceled or rescheduled up to 48 hours before the appointment; changes made within 48 hours are subject to a late-change fee under the booking policy.
